NEWPORT, RI -- August 10, 2000 - Our time in our homeland is drawing to a close at a rapid pace. I can't believe our lifelong dream is about to start. ULIAD is scheduled to depart US waters on November 5th, 2000. We will be participating in the 10th Annual Caribbean 1500 Rally sponsored by West Marine.
The rally, consisting of about 60 boats, will depart Hampton, VA on November 5th, 2000 bound for Virgin Gorda, BVI. The voyage will take approximately 10 days to complete. The core crew will consist of Tommy and me. Adjoining us will be 3 more crewmembers yet to be announced. Cammi and Cole, will be joining ULIAD in Virgin Gorda via commercial jet. Carla, our longtime baby-sitter, will be flying them over to meet us and will be staying with us for a number of months. Thank God for Carla!
As of today, we are living aboard ULIAD in Newport, RI. We are taking care of the final preparations needed to complete the first leg of our eventual circumnavigation. We will depart New England waters sometime after the Annual Newport Boat Show bound for Hampton, VA via New York City and Annapolis, MD.
As our departure time draws near, the list of action items is growing to triple digits. I am sure most of it will come together, but some things will just have to be tackled from our different ports of call. Thankfully, we have set a date to leave, otherwise who knows when we'd actually cast off the docklines.
Thanks for visiting our site. Best to you and your families,
